Shhhhhhh…I have a secret

I’ll try anything once, unless it involves eating monkey brains.

I’ve been getting a massage 4 – 5 times a week.

The girl who does it is named, Chun Mei. She must have studied Tui Na because she’s really good. They take these hard green plastic brushes and sprinkle this oil on you and then scrub you down like nobody’s  business. Then after that, she slathers this white creme on and continues scrubbing away. I have bruises on my body to prove it.

I’m going back to try a traditional procedure today, I’m not sure what it’s called, but they prick you with a needle and then stick theses bamboo tubes over the spots that have been pricked. The bamboo tubes are closed on one end and open on the other.

Apparently, they are soaked in an infusion of 4 different kinds of herbs. It has the effect of drawing out blood stasis. My concern is in using contaminated bamboo tubes. They said they would use a new set on me and then if I want to continue on with the treatment, I could buy my own set of bamboo tubes. There is some confusion as to the price of the bamboo tool set, weather or not there is an additional charge has not been fully been made clear to me.

I went through three translators and a video in Chinese to fully understand the procedure. The first translator said that they would inject some Chinese medicine and the second translator said  they would prick the local area and then apply the bamboo tubes over the site. Before I left, one of the clients showed up and showed me what my skin will look like following the procedure…

I had studied this procedure in TCM school, but had never practiced it due to the fact that  it involves blood letting, which is something we try to avoid back home due to the blood-borne pathogenic disease issue.

I’m not sure if I’m going to continue on with the full set of treatments, but I’m willing to give it a try once. I’ll try just about anything once, unless it involves eating monkey brains.
